I have made tons of these following (the first time) a pattern I bought. I bind the sides doing a zigzag stitch after wrapping the binding. I fray the top and bottom by putting a 2" strip folded and pressed with raw edges matching and zigzag it on, then fray with the other pieces. I've not lined mine with the white flannel. Will have to try that. No one has ever been unhappy about the strings, which do disappeart quickly. They're even great for adults for covering to watch TV. I LOVE shopping for the prints with colors that just blend.

When I make a rag quilt, I take it outside and shake the living daylights out of it before I wash it, then I shake it again outside when I take it out of the washer. It keeps a lot of strings out of the house, doing that.....I also wash it several times, repeating the outside shaking sessions before giving it away . Reduces the shedding to a bare minimum. It also gives me the chance to trim any stray threads, and usually by the final washing/shaking session, there aren't any long threads left to harm baby.

In step #2 you say to cut 6 - 6" strips from your main pattern. In step 4 you are to cut 1 - 6" strip from each pattern. You then say that will leave you with 4 - 6" strips and 2 - 3" strips of your main pattern. What happened to the 5th 6" strip of the main pattern?

Hi Katie, just stumbled across your blog and wanted you to know you are in my prayers! I too just started my journey to losing weight and creating a healthier mindset. To do this I have decided to go extreme ... In the past week I have successfully converted to veganism! Hey, desperate times call for desperate measures, right? My reasoning is that I will be forced to rethink my ENTIRE way of thinking and the planning of every ingredient that goes into my meals...and well... food in general. The past week has already brought its struggles and temptations but God truly has proven Himself (again...and again) to provide for my every need! One especially hard moment brought me to a family gathering this weekend where there was..gasp...nothing for me to eat! I excused myself, found a spare bedroom, and got on my knees! I looked up and, sparkling in the sun, was a glass cross hanging in the window with the reminder "I am the vine, you are the branch". Comfort, strength, and peace ensued. Lesson learned? BE prepared ahead of time! Oh yeah, and trust God :) :)

Hi Katie!
I started the Couch to 5k this week, and I've never run before in my life. Today was my 2nd day, and it was tough. I wasn't even able to do the last 2 jogs. But I'm going to get through this and I'm sure you are as well. Good luck with your program!
