Who Has Time for Patience?

Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Patience has never been my strongest point. I don’t know if it’s the fast paced, internet savvy world I grew up in, but waiting for anything is a veritable trial.  I hate driving behind tractors going to my parent’s house, waiting in line at the drive-thru, and all sorts of slow things that get in the way of my plans. I want things done my way, at my speed…NOW.

I couldn’t wait for college to start and my life to begin. I had every aspect of my life planned:

  1. Get into a college where hardly anyone knows me. (done)
  2. Make life-long friends. (done)
  3. Make the most out of my college experience. (done)
  4. Graduate and get a job. (half-way done)
  5. Meet a God-fearing man who has a heart for missions. (nope)

These were the goals I had set for myself, and I started to feel more and more out of control as my plan fell apart. I mean, I had done everything right Why wasn’t my life turning out like I had planned? I felt lost. “I” thought I knew the plan for my life. “I” thought I knew better, that “I” was right, that my way was the only way. Then, “I” dove face first, spiraling head over heals off the cliff of reality before I finally understood that “I” am not in control.  You see, I learned that God has a time for everything, and that His timing doesn’t necessarily fit into my perfectly planned life. He quietly whispers, “Patience. For I know the plans I have for you. Plans to help you, not harm you. Plans that give you a future more wonderful than you could ever imagine. Trust Me, beloved. Wait on Me“.

Christ is ALWAYS with you

We learn everyday from God.  He teaches us how to live our lives and what happens when we choose to ignore Him. I personally have no idea what tomorrow will bring and for some strange reason, that fills me with a rush of excitement. I don’t know what will happen or who I will meet, but I know that my God knows, and that is good enough for me.

I pray that you will let God direct your path. Right now my path is still unclear, but I joyfully give my future to God. I will pray for you and ask that you also pray for me. Remember, don’t worry about your future. God has it under control.
